The following FAQ pertains to Robert Land Academy's 2019 Gala. Check back for updated FAQ's to the 2020 Gala, taking place April 25, 2020.
What is the Robert Land Academy Gala?
Join us as we celebrate Robert Land Academy’s 40th anniversary. This year's gala will also include the presentation of The John Brant Award to the 2019 recipient, General (retired) Walter Natynczyk. The gala begins at 6 pm with a wine reception and silent auction. A gourmet dinner is at 7 pm followed by the award presentation. This is a formal, black-tie optional gala held at the exclusive National Club in downtown Toronto.
Who can attend?
The gala is open to all those interested in forwarding the mission of Robert Land Academy while enjoying a most memorable evening. Attendees include members of the Academy’s Board of Governors, parents of cadets, relatives, friends and business associates, RLA alumn ("Old Boys"), and special guests. We encourage guests to invite others to attend – this will make for a more social and memorable evening. Tables are arranged in groups of 8 to 10 guests. Cadets from the Academy’s grade 12 graduating class of 2019 will also be in attendance. We welcome siblings and family members of our guests and cadets to attend, however, we regret that attendance is restricted to guests who are 16 years of age and older.
Where do the event proceeds go?
Proceeds raised from this event will fund scholarships and ongoing projects at Robert Land Academy.

How can I help?
ATTEND THE EVENT: Event tickets are $175 per person. Tables accommodate 8 or 10 persons. You may purchase a full table at reduced rates or a partial table. Don’t forget to invite other members of your family, friends, relatives and business associates to join you. To confirm your attendance, order tickets online or call the Academy.

I can’t attend the event. Can I make a donation?

Are there corporate sponsorship packages available?
Yes. Robert Land Academy is happy to recognize those businesses and corporation who wish to support the gala as a Corporate Sponsor. Visit the corporate sponsor link on this page or call the Academy for further information.
Where is The National Club located?
The National Club is located at 303 Bay Street, Toronto (on the east side, between King and Adelaide Streets).
The Club is directly accessible by the underground PATH network from all subway stations (the closest is King station on the Yonge line) and major buildings in the area. 

Is The National Club Accessible?
Yes. We recommend guests with mobility or accessibility needs utilize the Bay Street entrance to The National Club. A lift is available at this entrance if required. 
Where Can I Park?
The best option, especially for those who have mobility issues, is Valet Parking at the Adelaide Hotel next door to the National Club. Valet parking is accessed off of Adelaide Street West, just east of Bay Street. There is also a parking garage for Scotia Plaza. The entrance to the parking garage is accessed off Adelaide Street West, just east of Bay Street. The Scotia Plaza parking fee will apply. If using the Scotia Plaza parking, take the elevator to the Concourse Level, go right out of the elevator and right again at the end of the corridor.  Walk through the concourse and look for a large, wooden door. This is the back entrance to The National Club. There is no sign. We will position two RLA Cadets here to assist guests, however, they will not be in the position after 6:45 p.m.

Where can I stay while in Toronto?
Robert Land Academy does not have a block of rooms at a specific hotel for this event.

The Adelaide Hotel next door to the National Club ( )The Pantages Hotel is about a six-minute walk from The National Club ( Other nearby hotels include The Bond Place ( which is a 15-minute walk to the National Club; Sheraton Centre (  a 7 or 8 min walk to the National Club; The Hilton ( which is a 7-minute walk. Robert Land Academy is providing this information as a courtesy. There are a number of other hotels nearby and can be found through a simple google map search and by clicking “nearby”.

What does Formal Dress mean?
Formal Dress for Men: A tuxedo or a formal dark suit and tie.
Formal Dress for Women: A long evening dress, a formal cocktail length dress, or a dressy pantsuit.
Mess Kit with medals is suitable for serving and retired members of the military.
Please also note, The National Club has a dress code, which requires formal dress in the main dining room (where our event will be held). Not permitted at the National Club: faded, torn or worn jeans, sweatshirts, athletic shoes, and casual sandals (such as beach sandals) are not permitted anywhere in the Club, nor is any apparel with slogans or commercial messages.

Is my son/child allowed to attend?
The Gala Event is open to Grade 12 RLA Cadets attending with their family members. Due to the size of the room, at this time cadets of Robert Land Academy in other grades or other children are respectfully asked to not attend. Attendance is open to individuals 16 years of age and older.

I haven’t received my ticket yet. Is this a problem?
Robert Land Academy is not issuing physical tickets to the Gala Event. Once we receive your ticket order form and payment, a staff member will contact you directly via phone or email (possibly both) to confirm your order, ask if there are any special considerations you require and ask for any other information we may need prior to the event.

I’m vegan/have a food allergy, will I have a meal?
Most definitely. Once we receive your order and payment, during our confirmation communication with you, our staff will confirm menu choices and ask if you have any dietary restrictions so that we may accommodate you.  

Will alcohol be served?
Yes. Wine, soft drinks, and juice are included at the reception from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will also be included with dinner.
